No. layer cells less prone to leak than modern Alkaline, which seem to have rubbish bottom seals now (or top seals on button/coin type Alkaloine). Regular zinc still the worst. Varta Alkaline seem much less likely to leak than over priced Duracell or Energizer. They didn't use to leak.
