Much of the BBC's work in this field was done by Richard Russell: http://www.rtrussell.co.uk/ I first met him in 1977 when had a long vacation job at BBC Designs Department. Richard also designed the COW (Computer Originated World) or more formally the GE6SM/565. We have one installed at the Broadcast Engineering Museum. It contains over 400 EPROMs, each 2k*8. These were the largest that were readily available at the time.
