Hi,
In 1935, the Germans began construction of an extensive cable telephone network, which provided the Third Reich with communication with the Eastern Front during the Second World War. After the war, the secret telephone line was used to communicate Soviet troops stationed in Poland with Moscow. Special repeater stations the size of a large building were built along the route of the telephone cable. The cable was used on Polish territory until the 1990s. At that time, the Soviet troops left Poland and fibre optic technology began to replace the traditional cable . The diameter of the cable was about 10 cm. On the outside was a steel armour. Underneath it was a layer of protective steel wires. Further inwards was an armour of lead. Inside there were about 150 copper wires. The cable in the ground was placed in a trough built of bricks.
