you can sometimes even cut a too long one (accurately) and superglue the ends. First saw that done by a service manager on a EIAJ reel-to-reel video recorder in late 1970s and it worked!
He also occasionally used silicone grease on a slipping audio tape deck belt (language lab systems) which surprised me by also working.
Amazon and ebay both have jumbo assorted belt kits very cheap that I've used for walkman type players and also tape counters.
