The thought that swayed me to use a single oscillator for the hat was around mixing of the two modulator outputs to produce heterodyne products for lower frequency RF. Two oscillators running independently at 100ppm overall accuracy would have products with 10,000ppm accuracy as the mixing is a multiplication process rather than addition. However, like much of my thinking, this could be wrong or the whole mixing idea be unworkable and therefore a single clock source unnecessary.
