My experience is that the DAC08 is rather mediocre for video. But that's assessing it against professional standards. It will certainly give pictures. The output has an inconvenient DC offset because the load resistors are connected to +5V. It needs some resistors and a buffer amplifier to drive 75R correctly. Any video opamp from the classic EL2020 onwards will work.
The Aurora uses a R-2R ladder though with a variation that isn't necessary for most purposes. The Hedghog uses a simple R-2R ladder.
