I had a bit of good luck today, I took the bottom off the cabinet, cleaned the wave change switches and had sound from the radio! The AFC is working but the sound seems slightly better when switched off so it will need tweaking. A few caps had been changed and the soldering is neat. I do need to take out the chassis to clean all the dust off the tuning scale. I only use about 1.5m of hook up wire going up to one of the beams and along it a little way as an aerial, but I am only about 3km from the local MW repeater which broadcasts BBC R4 on 756kHz. The 880 will replace the Pilot model 63 which I have been using as my kitchen radio as it needs some attention and is due a holiday. I just have the tuning indicator to sort out in the 880 as it is not glowing. I am looking forward to setting up the station pre-sets. I forgot to check if it was receiving anything on the Droitwich button; it may need adjusting from 200kHz to 198kHz! It is receivable here but not very well, without a decent aerial, it comes in ok in the shack on my long wire.
