All the Travelodges I've stayed in (and it's been quite a few) have been comfortable with one exception. Brighton Central about 10 years ago was horrible and dingy. Ruth and I are fairly fussy about our bed but never had a problem with Travelodge mattresses.
Only stayed in Premier Inn a couple of times. All good, including a problem in one this year that they put right with an excellent response. The sort of response that makes you want to stay with them again.
Some hotels have a card key slot that turns on the room's electrics. I suppose it stops you leaving things switched on while you're out .
