A friend of mine, a teacher, tells me that children in his school
are not allowed to play conkers anymore due to possible eye damage.
One less hands on experience.
When we were all kids conkers each year was a great sport.
Soaking conkers in vinegar to toughen them up. I don't recall anyone
loosing an eye when a conker shattered
