Recording video in the 1950s

Paul Morris from Exeter was making and selling new wax cylinders at one time. Many years ago (early 2000s?) he gave a demo at a BVWS Harpenden meeting. I recall it was melting the wax in a old saucepan and pouring it into a mould. He then demonstrated recording and replay.
