The wax cylinders were reused by placing them in a cutter machine which
machined a thin sliver of wax off the old wax surface.
In this way they could be reused many times.
It wouldn't be too difficult to build such a machine or use a lathe.
A few years ago there was a chap in the UK selling brand new wax
cylinders but I don't know if he is still around.
