If so it needs a non metallic section as this effects the polar diagram and resonance of the antenna.

No, we used a fibreglass pole, for that very reason.

Seeing that 'makes our mouths water'! (English saying).
For the more recent tests on Channel 1 we used a broad band quarter wave unipole with ground plane elements at 50 degrees below horizontal.
See pic. Perhaps unsurprisingly, we ran into local planning difficulties shortly after getting started. We are now looking into a change of location...
