I've also injected video into the G3 on my experimental Band 1 TV modulator, it works but can be quite fussy with changing DC level. Will most likely to never go any further with this method but it does work.
I've found over the ten or so years of fiddling with these valves that they don't always behave we'd expect them to.
The filament gradient is one thing that I have to say was something I over looked, I have though noticed that on the 1j42a running the filament voltage down there is a sweet spot before emission ceases around 0.6v where the gain can actually increase especially at 6v HT. All good fun!
