Well in simple terms, of the 30 items I handed over for auction only 12 appear to have actually been auctioned and the rest might as well have vanished without trace.
To be clear, where items were auctioned they were fully accounted for and the amounts raised were reasonable. I would have no concerns if this is what happened to all my items but it appears that most were actually sold across a table at Golborne, where the amount raised was pitiful. On querying this I was told that "we also take sales stock to the other BVWS events where there are no auctions" and "detailed information is only kept on item sales when it is an actual auction". Thus I have no idea what each of these items was sold for or even if they were sold at all.
This wouldn't matter if we were talking about a box or 2 of odd crystals but in my case it included a Tek 7704A 'scope mainframe, a Tek 7L13 spectrum analyser, a Solatron Schlumberger 7150 Plus 6.5 digit multimeter, a Marconi 2700 bridge, a CT471 Electronic Multimeter, and 5 Avometers (2 with cases). Any one of the first 4 of those should have raised more than the total amount I received for all of them and the decision not to auction them was, in my view, wrong.
So that is why I won't use a BVWS auction again. To be absolutely clear, I'm not suggesting that there has been any dishonesty by anyone involved but the process is not one that I wish to have any further dealings with and I won't be renewing my BVWS membership when it becomes due.
Hugh
