Today is the first opportunity to use the unit I have just bought for £120 which I do not think was a bad price at all.
My first initial thought were its almost twice the size of my Tek T935a so uses up far too much of the end of my workshop bench. I was initially look for a small scope hence my post about digital scopes.
However, having tried it with the HP39999 function generator I can see now why a scope can be a very useful test instrument. The display is crystal clear and the waveform produced can be held very statically indeed so that it would be easy to measure. 
My only question is that the blue plastic display in front of the CRT is very rough. I assume that its oxidised in all the years its been with the 'scope and its almost dark green in colour. Does anyone have any idea where I can get some sort of replacement?

The display filters are often discoloured - no idea why, but perhaps UV is part of the problem. Some are fine. Perhaps where they are used and stored is a factor. I doubt NOS filters are available any more. I did find a couple in a drawer at work, but have fitted them to the scopes we still have in use.

A word of warning - I wouldn't try to change it unless you really have to. Philips used a type of plastic that often goes brittle with age, and the act of pulling the bezel from the front panel to access the filter might cause the lugs to snap.

Personally, I think that £120 is well over the top, but having just taken a look at the sold prices of Philips test gear on eBay, it appears that my collection is worth much more than I realised! Well employees were never permitted to acquire prototypes or obsolete equipment. As an ex-employee think it only my duty to return it to the company.

Yes - that one is mine, I offered a lower price which he accepted.
The lugs have already snapped off the top of the bezel so someone has tried to do this before. I does appear to be fully working even though its been in storage ( it does appear to have been stored well too).

Are you sure that's not just nicotine or grime Rob? Try giving it a gentle clean with soapy water or glass cleaner but try a little bit in a corner first, looks like the whole thing could do with a clean.

Its just not been my weekend - I've got gout in my left big toe and I've not had gout for nearly 10 years; I bought a wrong camera lens for a Nikon D700 camera not realising that the DX lenses that I use for my other cameras are not full format and this afternoon in hobbling out to the workshop I endeavoured to use this 'scope and calibrate a test probe with it! Now I think I've made a huge error buying this 'scope!! It does not appear that straight forward a scope to use - the manual I have is incredibly hard to follow in the first instance. Secondly, the square wave signal appears to have a level of noise to it. If this needs a service what the best thing to do as it will be out of my league to do so?
I have I made a big mistake in buying this and should I revert back to using my Tektronics 935a in the first instance for actual work?
