Hello from Cuba

[Miguel Lopez]

Hi Alan, glad to see you here too. Greetings to Suzanne. I was wondering if you would be here too.

Yes, I keep touching the electrons, trying that they don't touch me. By the way, the Selena is working perfectly. A jewel of radio

[Nowhere-Man]

Saludos

For those who cannot read Spanish in the last post, here is a translation of Nowhere-Man's post - courtesy of Google Translate :

'Hello Miguel, If I'm not mistaken you have a lot of experience with the radios made in La Union Sovietica. I have the Astrad Auriga that was built in Latvia. I do not have time to do more than take a look inside and if it seems more difficult than I imagined. I hope you give advice in the future. regards'

I have an Astrad Auriga (the name is not actually Latin, but is like Latin for Gold Star). A lovely set. As is common, the contacts on the "turret" style wavechange needed cleaned. The only other thing needing attention on mine is that I need to replace the scale bulb/lamp. Or it might be the button.
Very good LW/MW/SW.

They were made in Riga.

Spanish is very cool, but this is an Anglophone forum and let's keep it that way

Ta !

[Nowhere-Man]

I was very impressed with the Astrad. Mine is a total non runner but I don't have time to begin any in depth work as have been busy on other stuff. I didn't realise the USSR had made so many transistor sets. I don't have much experience with transistor PCB work either although my German tube set uses a large board.

The Riga works existed before USSR took over Lithuania and licensed the famous pre war Austrian Geographic that had light pipes and dots on map that lit as you tuned.

Is there by any chance a connection between Riga and the Rigonda trade mark, by any chance?

[Mike Watterson]

Mostly, but not always!

Rigonda 102 http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/radiotehni_...a_102.html
Country: Latvia (Latvia, Riga)
Manufacturer / Brand: Radiotehnika (RT) - after 1951 RRR Rigas Radio Rupnica; Riga

However the iconic "red tin" Rigonda TV (1970s, full of Germanium) is Russian, Leningrad

Mezon Works, Leningrad

The larger Rigonda Fiesta TV
http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/kauno_rigonda_fiesta.html
Country: Lithuania (Lithuania, Vilnius), Manufacturer / Brand: Kauno Radijo Gamykla (KRG), Kaunas

Most Rigonda branded items seem to come from Riga in Latvia (I sometimes mix up Lithuania and Latvia, but Lithuania used to be in the Polish - Lithuanian Commonwealth, part of which is now in Germany and part is now in Ukraine. See writer Joseph Conrad)

We used to call Rigonda stuff recycled rocket.
