Although I've been a member of other forums for a while and am a BVWS member, I'm a newcomer to Golborne. I look forward to interesting discussions. I already see some familiar names.
I've always enjoyed electronics. I'm told that my first electrical experiment was blowing the main fuses at home at age 3 by dropping a knife through a handy conduit knockout into the ironclad main switch.
I've had a varied career, starting with a sandwich apprenticeship then teaching electroacoustics and electronics at UMIST. After that, studio mixing desks (Neve), marine radar & radio (Kelvin Hughes), Smiths Aerospace, Interconnect components - Hypertac, Polyphaser), Vent-Axia

I'm mainly retired from the above, but still try to help technology businesses to make money.
I collect too much, particularly:
Record players from the early 1950s.
All sorts of valve radios, some American.
Vintage audio.
Test equipment.
The odd Bell & Howell sound projector.
Big queue of car boot and eBay stuff awaiting my retirement!
Neither a perfectionist nor audiophool, I like stuff to work as originally intended. I generally repair where necessary rather than totally restore.
I also enjoy photography & gardening.
We like to travel (generally arranged by my wife as compensation for having been left at home when I've been on business trips)
