I bought a batch of twelve 60g tubes of 'Bakelite Polish Number 5' from direct Greygate last year -minimum order quantity and more than I needed for myself. I have just one tube left - it's yours if you want it, for £4.50 inc P&P securely packed so it doesn't get squashed in the post.

The polish was originally developed by Greygate Chemicals Ltd - a small specialist polish manufacturer based in Leicester - to the Post Office spec many years ago for polishing bakelite phones. It's a gently abrasive yellow cream - a little on a soft cloth gently worked in with the index finger goes a long way. Far less aggresive than such things as silver polish and 'T-Cut', and of course, made for the job.

If you are tempted to use T Cut, I'd try it first in an inconspicuous spot, such as under the base of the cabinet. I'm not saying that it's unsatisfactory, but we wouldn't use Bakelite polish on a car, so why use T-Cut on Bakelite, when Greygate polish No 5 was specially formulated for polishing Bakelite? If you put a bit of each between your thiumb and forefinger, I think you'd find that T-Cut feels coarser than polish #5, which is more creamy to the touch.

Neither work well without the addition of a generous amount of elbow grease!

It's not a terrible problem, but be VERY careful with T-cut, I personally tend to use cream cleaner and some Car Polish.
You could always use Acid
