Um! very challenging restro ! Don't think SWMBO would like it on the sideboard.

So is that double diversity ? If I remember a little about this you have two displaced antenna systems and each receiver is connected to one of them. So tuned to a SW station if you get fade on one channel the other may not and the summed output, with I guess amplified AVC etc, holds reasonably constant.

What are all the separate boxes on top? Are they range plug ins similar to how the HRO was?

And the chap did some splendid work restoring it. There are some really top old engineers out there.

Isnt such a radio even more of an anachronism than the ones we work on from the valve era? From the little I twiddle the SW bands I never find much to hold my attention so why would anyone need a DDI?

But I expect someone will ...

Gary, I think the units on top are the audio output and the PSU.

That radio is worth fixing up properly.

For more on SW bands you need a BFO, a reasonable antenna and a product detector if possible, fine tuning on the SW bands on most domestic radios isn't that good for SSB etc, you really need a comms set to restore Gary.

I wouldn't mind the restoration but it could cost a bomb and then like most domestic sets be worth less restored than as it is. The old conundrum of folks mostly wanting them un-restored 'cos the joys in the doing !

Not sure, but from all accounts if you decode some of the "Amature" SSTV transmissions in the SW bands there might be something juicy to look at....

Not a lot but very special. Only appeal to a few. 3 fairly serious bidders.

All the metal octal valve but still separated by individual screens.

And alignment would need some good gear I reckon.

Hopefully gone to a good home Gary, yes the alignment, two radios in one to do, the IF and RF should be no problem, only one local osc.

That receiver tunes up to 40 odd Mhz.

Yes, I was surprised at how little it went for. Not enough Heros wanting it I guess.
It's equally fair to say that it all depends on who's about on the day. I just bought something - more later no doubt - for half what I bid, and that was half what I thought it might go for on a good day.
