Pye Battery State Of Charge Indicator

I have just had a look at some photos that I took of a Ekco radiation monitor that runs on disposable batteries and the the compartment contacts work in the same way. Perhaps this item is a later model of such an instrument.

It is. I can confirm with a 100% certainty that that is definitely a NSN number, having had frequent access to the NSN stores catalogue in past employment.

I am only posting this link because the colour is very similar to Al's Pye Battery Tester, I don't think there is any direct connection but the colour similarity might? indicate a similar genre.

This thing rang a bell with me but it's taken me a while to work it out. I think it's probably a battery tester for the PF2 Pocketfone (aka Pocketfone 70). These were in wide use in the Armed forces at one time for things like Barracks Security comms. Because they (and their ancillaries) weren't for "tactical" use they appeared in their normal civilian colour scheme

The battery was a squat "cuboid" with exposed contacts on both one side and the bottom. Moreover, although flat on the surface visible when installed on the radio, they had indentations in the top and side that I think match the top 3 studs on the tester. I haven't found a picture of a battery on the net but if you have a look at the pictures of the radio half way down this page you'll get the idea.

Those radios sit in a "pocket" in the charger just like the ones used by camera operators. I sometimes used to repair them in my days of servicing drain inspection cameras.

They are the 'Pocketphones' that remember. You dropped them into the Charger when you got off-shift and hoped they charged up for next time. However, the ones I remember had the Contacts in a row on the top and bottom, and wouldn't fit this Unit.
I've emailed the people above and I'll email the real Pye Museum.

That's it OK Lawrence. However, unless I'm being particularly dim it's just a set of pictures with no description.

Yes Alan, just a set of pictures, they are the only ones I could find on the web excluding yours, that BT1 tester seems to be a bit rare, I can't think of a battery that would fit it, something special maybe. There is the rest of the Pye stuff in that library but I could not see anything that maybe directly relevant.
