Aldi Multi-Tool

SWMBO want a new Utility room and kitchen and the plans are in. Getting quotes from builders and then trauma as they smash all the stuff I put in ... I'm off to the beach

Bought this really useful tool recently, they do still have some in my store.



From mem about £35 and spare tools extra.

It has scrappers and triangle sandy discs etc but the bit that interested me was the saw. It oscillates thru a small arc and literally can be plunged. In my case into Luan (poor mans Mahog).

I have no connection with Aldi, just a customer who like there stuff. My wife calls them "my tailor" as I buy many of there clothes

I managed to visit the local Aldi today for the first time ever. They didn't have the multi-tool - they seem to have stuff in as 'special offers' and when it's gone it's gone. They did have lots of other power tools of the same brand and I must say that they looked quite good on the face of things, and keenly priced. For example, an electric engraver and a palm sander, neither of which would need to be heavy duty as wouldn't the 'multi-tool'. They also had what looked like a decent gas soldering iron kit.

There other things such as ladders and steps looked very robust and good quality (maybe they're 'German'!). They had sets of three 600mm long SDS drills I'd say from 15mm - 32 mm. I don't have any call for them, but for anyone who might do, as far as I could tell from a visual observation, they looked good quality. I found quite a lot to interest me in the tools and hardware section, so I'll make a point of popping in from time to time, if only out of interest, and I might try to other local Aldi store to see if they sill have the Multi-tool.

As to being your 'tailor' Gary, I looked at a few clothing items and they seemed good quality and well made, which I'd be quite happy to wear. EG, some nicely tailored shorts.

The sea is a 10 min walk away and we have several excellent beaches for windsurfing although some folks sail boats and dinghies from them as well. Have sailed dinghies but unless you race (not on if you are working weekend shifts as I was) there is little to learn on those after you have mastered the basic moves. Windsurfing is so difficult and so advanced that its a lifetime sport ...

Probably getting near the end for me at 74, oldest guy on the beach by a fair way. I have kept going by buying the best technology ... the lightest and easiest everything. Plus a lot of fitness stuff (need to do more with some weights for the arms, why do muscles seem to disappear when you get old?) when the wind don't blow which is most of the time (tell that to the wind farm lovers!). As the years have gone by my wind range has contracted, no longer sail the big blows with tiny boards and sails (the greatest buzz) or the F3 with very big kit and my time on the water has contracted hugely.

Had some wonderful times ... and still love a good day

Well done on your extensive glazing job Gary and enjoy the sea sports whilst ever you can; you're not a guy to give in easily so hopefully you will be showing the young guys a fair turn of speed for some years yet to come.

At first David; Bron and I disliked our brand new Aldi store. We visited when it opened but couldn't move for the older people who had obviously visited just for a trip out and to block everything off whilst having a natter in groups; sorry if this sounds disrespectful of our older generation but we too are retired. The layout of the store and the pricing of goods appeared strange to what we were used to so all in all it put us off.

One day Morrison's didn't have any fresh Soya milk which I need so out of curiosity I popped around to Aldi and was truly amazed; I found I could buy a pack of 12 x 1 litres and save £6 per pack compared to Morrison's so I started to do my usual Morrisons trip first then drive the short distance to Aldi just to buy the Soya this alone saving over £300 per year; now I buy more and more at Aldi and the hardware section is always worth a look.

Aldi Honey Nut Cornflakes are excellent and very cheap. I've bought short aluminium step ladders; quick acting clamps and recently work trousers all of which are excellent value. I visit both Morrison's and Aldi twice weekly being at Morrisons for when it opens at 8 o'clock then I shoot round to Aldi; if we need paper kitchen towel then I pop into Home Bargains on the same site as Aldi; the kitchen towels here cost £1 per pack of three compared to Morrison's at £1.80 per pack of three I buy five packs to save time. I can visit all three stores and be home before 9 o'clock; I always take a shopping list as this avoids impulse buying and I distrust Morrison's special offers because I've been caught out too many times on pricing?

Its a pity our local Aldi isn't twice the size covering everything I buy at Morrisons. Some items at Aldi are dearer than Morrison's but on the whole Aldi win hands down on price and their items are equal quality.

For those who have not yet visited Aldi I would say go have a look and take your time you won't be disappointed. The groups of older people have long gone now the novelty has worn off but I think they now arrive by coach load at Boundary mills where we visit which is much better because Boundary Mills is a much bigger store than Aldi. Its just an observation on my part regarding older people visiting these stores and I know only too well I'm knocking on the door to join them so I'm not knocking them in any way. The conversation of many of these older people usually covers who has just died; recent operations and what medication they are on; it's no fun getting old?

Isle blockers in the isles I have encountered are mostly average age mothers and are more likely to have teen age children. They just stop side by side and natter blocking the isle up. Our Aldi is across the road from Tesco and Wilco with free parking. In Aldi the customers just blast there way round to the items that are priced below the other supermarkets and head for the checkout. We do the same.
The layout of our store has all the non food items in the middle of the store with food around around all four sides.
It is the only supermarket with this layout I have ever used.

My Mum in law (now sadly gone) was just amazed by how much she could buy in Aldi and Liddel for the money. She came down from 'up your end' and was used to shopping in the local small shops. I can remember here saying "I got all this in the trolley and it only cost XY&Z ..."

She preferred Liddel but that's not so good for Boy's stuff in my opinion.

Odd thing here - I placed a post earlier today in reply to this thread but it seems to have disappeared completely. Hey ho, as the gnomes might say, here goes again, in brief:
I have a similar tool to a Dremel. Though well made the tools that come with it are practically useless, as others on this thread have found. The milling cutters don't mill, the sanding drums shed their sanding surfaces and all in all the tool is probably best for model work rather than full-scale stuff,
I must thank you, Col, for the video link. The Fein tool looks very tempting, though for now I'll pass, not being very likely to take on a great deal of work for the foreseeable future.

As you know Tony I love my tools and am possibly a tool junkie for want of a better term but I do use my tools so I'm not totally mad or rich. I'll not buy a Dremel or equivalent as I can't see a use for such a lightweight tool in my collection; thanks for your thoughts though.

Bron and I have visited Lidl only once Gary and I can't explain why but it didn't sit well with us although I do like Aldi. One thing about Aldi is that the hardware is down the centre of the store and in our Aldi this section often resembles a jumble sale but as you say Gary there are good bargains to be had; I'll be in Aldi again on Friday morning as I will in Morrison's.

Depending on what we have planned for the day Refugee many times I also wiz round Aldi in a matter of minutes; I take along a list and know the layout so am not slowed down trying to locate anything; I do supermarket shopping first thing Monday and Friday mornings when the stores have only just opened so are quiet; I can't stand being carried around a store.

Time now to settle down with Bron and watch a couple of vintage episodes of Dallas; I downloaded the full series ages ago onto about 14 DVD's with about 12 episodes on each disc; this is much better viewing than the rubbish put out these days.
