Well, my second 405 line TV.

brought on a spur of the moment thing for 20 beer tokens, the set has been 99% recapped, it looks as it just needs some of the electrolytics replacing to finish that part off.

The set has had a new EY51 and a replacement ECL80 fitted, and I should have a PL38 if needed, the tube looks to be a replacement, as the only markings on it are made in Holland, the set is complete, and the cabinet has been stripped ready for completion.

The seller informed me it is a working set, but has the problem that it suffers from "ballooning" ie the picture shrinks after a while when it has been on for a while,

It is also fitted with the band III converter.

So at the moment, I will replace some of the brittle wiring, then I need to see if I can "beg, steal or borrow" an Aurora, to test the set before I further proceed.

This should be an interesting restoration.

Ballooning means the picture is coming forward and getting bigger as it fades. Yet you say it gets smaller. I'm a bit confused.

If the picture is getting smaller, check the HT. If it's getting bigger, try seeing if the EHT winding gets hot or try new valves in this area.

Why is it that I look at that set, and instantly think of the kit television that Hancock bought off of Sid James?

Hi Steve, it did sound strange, this is how the seller explained it to me,
no doubt all will become clear when I apply some mains to it.
I also noticed that the tube was not clamped right back, thus the aquadag was not making contact with the chassis,
I believe this can cause said problem as well?
