Just to be clear, I never meant to imply that Rob was contemplating anything unsafe in this instance, I was making a general point. Also by safety I meant as much safety of the equipment as the user.

We all do this for fun and have different ways of getting the most fun out of it.

This thread is also a useful reminder not to through broken parts away as you may in the future be able to make one good one out of two bad ones.

Hi All,
I dont think the switch section is duff its just very 'tight' to switch on and off. I've sprayed some deoxit in it and I'll see if this has any effect.

Hi All,
Back to normal now my holiday to Cornwall is over.

I've got some new 470k switched log pots. The position of the connectors on the the new pot are in a different position to those on the original one. I dont just want to dive in and wire this up if these are incorrect! Stupid question here (doh!) how do I know the correct sequence of wiring to the new pot?

The old pot in pic is the one that I added the lead too as a broke off the tab!!

Connect a couple of terminals to a continuity tester or ohmmeter and see what happens when you operate the switch. If nothing happens change one connection until it switches on and off.

Hi All,
I've determined the switching of the pot. Does it matter which way neutral/live is to one side of the switch? If it is, how can I determine which side should be neutral?

I always leave the neutral un-switched so there's no danger of that breaking and the live not doing. Were that to happen the chassis would go live.
