hi ,have you tried ben dijkman in holland for a price?ive been in conversation with him in the past and he mentioned that if a forum or club came together and ordered 6 or more dials or whatever, he could supply at a much cheaper price, he made a glass dial and printed white lettering etc for me for my philips 462a ,[the set with the glass dial out side on top] , for 30eus ,which i think was very reasonable, no doubt id have got it much cheaper if i was multiple,best regards maitiu.

Just a point for future reference John, when you click on 'edit' if you choose 'full edit' rather than 'quick edit' you can edit the heading as well as the body of the post. Unlike some forums, where there is a time limit on how long a post can be edited by the original poster, there's no time limit on this forum. For example, I've fairly recently re-attached photos which were lost during the 'purple patch' late last summer.

I Just found out that Customs impounded my donor Radialva because the seller did not put one of those stickers on it saying what the contents were and the value - so much for the French Post Office. Hopefully Swiss customs will accept a copy of my eBay sale as proof of the value - they just want to know how much tax to add on!

Hopefully the delay will not be too much longer. The set still plays nicely so I'm looking forward to putting the new dial in it!

The second Radialva set finally arrived today. I'm pleased to say the dial survived and is in very good condition. I will now be able to make a number of high res scans to keep on hand for when I find a working process to reproduce - or find someone who can do it for me

Alas the rest of the set is in a sorry state. Probably with the best of intentions, the set has been modified to have a large (and heavy) mains transformer thus replacing all the old power supply including the rectifier valve. The socket and all associated wiring is gone! To make room for the TFO the speaker and bracket are also gone but I can find no flying leads that would connect to an external speaker. Oh well, getting this one back to life may be quite a struggle - but all good fun once i get round to it!

I'll post some photos later on.

OK, here's a few pics - the finished set and a few to show how 'heavily modified' the second set is. I've scanned the dial against a black background so I'll upload that once I've tidied it up a bit. I'll contact Ben Dijkman to see what he can do for us re the dial reproduction. I notice his website seems exclusively Philips related so I'm not sure if he will do other brands as well.

There is a back board with the second set but it has the usual damage beside the rectifier valve.

I'll do a final video clip and upload it in the next day or so.

hi john, that's some t/f fitted to the doner
maybe a pye flat type would be more apt ,provided the voltage is correct.
i seem to remember you having the guts of a 503 left over , you must have had a laugh trying to get that chasis out of the case, it appears to be hanging way out over the chasis.[the t/f]anyway its for another day,is'int

Right, here's the final episode on the Radialva restore and a peek at the dreadful state of the donor set. I will make a proper back panel for the restored set later.
