Alan,
Could you Post some pictures of the inside? I've got an unidentified chassis, and it may be one of these. The number of push-buttons is right, so I'm hopeful. Alan

Indeed.. just pre war.. the CT series valves were generally only used on sets destined for the continental market.. never sort of caught on here.. Only one I have ever seen was in a Mullard set where it sat along with a standard set of E series.. a lone CCH2? puzzling. http://www.radiomuseum.org/tubes/tube_cch2.html

Alan,
That looks like my chassis. I'll post some pictures later. Mind you, mine looks as though it was in a car crash after being rescued from a chicken shed. I have a couple of (probably) pre-war Pye Car radios - P824 - which use CT valves, possibly because the overall height is significantly less than the Octal versions. Alan [attachment=560]

That's one reason.. the other is the 29v 0.2A heaters.. a vibrator pack throwing out nominal 90v could happily supply 3 "C" series valves in a series heater chain. Have seen a few mobile/portable sets with "C" series side contact valves... but never seen say an EK2.

On the car radio the 6v version has the heaters in parallel, and in the 12v version a series/paralel arrangement using the dial bulb as the 'sixth'. The instructions warn you that you must use the correct bulb in the 12v version. The valve line-up is EF8, EK2, EBF2, EBF2 and EL2.

So, herewith pictures.
I rescued it a couple of years ago to save it from the tip. The description was 'Possibly Pye'. It isn't as bad as it looks. The switch shafts should straighten out, there's a wrong IFT and one of the coils is damaged, but not disasterously. Clearly someone has had a go at it before, but all the basics are there. I think this is what's called a 'Challenge' in Restoration circles. Anyway, there's no point silting up this Thread with it. I'll be back when I get to it.
