We bought our first TV in 1966 and it was neveder reliable - it was a dual standard with a very complex swtching arrangements, and a turret tuner the contacts of which were forever tarnishing and taking it off tune. After a couple of years it conked out -no sound, no vision, and was repaired. I didn't know or care what the problem was - it just got sorted. Then which the tube went and we got a new TV, I took the old one apart to scavenge it for any bits that might be useful, when I discovered that the 'repair' had been to use one of those circular RS dropper sections to replace a burnt-out section of the mains dropper. They guy (or as he'd no doubt like to have been called 'engineer') who did this 'repair' had screwed the dropper to the inside of the wooden TV cabinet, which had become very scorched and must at some time have been close to catching fire!
If anyone who wants wooden el-cap cases turned for 50 Euro each, I'm available, but I wont hold my breath.:D
Wooden cap cases improve sound quality? Another urban legend is born!
And anyway, if bees buzz and hum, and beeswax comes from bees, and you embed a cap in beeswax...

'I'm in my own little world, but I'm happy, and they know me here'
