The thing is Michael we don't know the OPs level of electronic skills.
I'd not advise poking around with a multimeter if you are not sure. One false move or wrong meter settings then POP. if in doubt leave it alone.

It's not suitable for anyone inexperienced in repair.
Having a meter and knowing what the switch positions mean isn't enough.

Hi Mike,thanks  yes it’s the De Luxe model. The radio it’s self is getting power as is the record player, it’s just not coming out of the speakers so may be the audio amp/ output transistor.

The record player works straight of the mains.

Unless the signal level meter changes when you tune a signal (may need aerial wire on FM) or there is audio to feed a separate amp via the Tape socket, you can't know if the radio is getting power. There is at least one lamp, maybe two or three. They can be using a separate power of 6.3V AC, so lightlng up means not much!
