1920s radio?

This radio(?) has come my way. It was found in an attic. It's heavy, about 15kg, with much bigger transformers than you would expect in a radio. There are not any controls apparent.

There are 2 pairs of valves and at least 1 empty valveholder. One pair of valves are 262A: https://www.radiomuseum.org/tubes/tube_262a.html The other are 4300A: http://www.r-type.org/exhib/acf0048.htm

This sort of 1920s equipment is way outside my specialist knowledge.

I wonder if it's an amplifier rather than a radio???

That's what I was thinking. Possibly early PA or cinema with a the pair of 4300A in push-pull. I've also just realised that 4300A = 300A = possible audiophool's gold. The valves might have to be auctioned for BECG benefit.

Oh no.
Don't split it for the valves. This has killed many RGD radiograms and other items.
Offer it for sensible donations whole and let someone get the pleasure of getting it to work.

It could also possibly be a modulator for an AM transmitter, maybe home built in the 50s. It is later than 1920s as the 4300A was not introduced until the late 30s.

I think Rod could well be correct with this. Looking closer the construction is not twenties.

Yes transformers look WW2/ 50's so possibly a modulator rather than an amp

The case looks very 1920s so perhaps it's a homebrew in an older case.

Most likely the original set was scrapped to make the modulator and as you say the cabinet was reused.
Have you any plans for it then?
