Post office crush post

After two attempts, my wife gave up on ordering cases of wine from Aldi, delivery by Parcel Farce.

The first failed to arrive on the day advised and a revised delivery date of the following day was advised The following day there was a repeat performance. Trying to find out what was going on, she managed to speak to somebody who was obviously new and hadn't received the full induction training because they let slip that it had got smashed in the warehouse!

At the second attempt, 6 bottles arrived rattling around loose in a box. There was no sign of broken glass or spilt wine and, in any case, the box wasn't big enough to hold 12 bottles! Further inspection of the box revealed that its original use had been to deliver Parcel Farce documentation!

Would you believe the Post office sent us a small book of 6 stamps in settlement to our claim for the damaged parcel.
I dont know how they thought that was sufficient compensation, when we put in the claim the value as £16, which was less than actual value but was all we could prove as that is what the person paid me for it..
I had to telephone them and tell them a few home truths about their service and the ridiculous way they considered a claim for £16 could be settled with 6 1st class stamps.

They say they will send a cheque in the post for the full amount.

I had the same thing happen to me about a year and a half ago, in my case Royal mail managed to lose a small Roberts Radio I'd sent back for repair. Never got more than the stamps out of Royal mail, however the radio did turn up at Robert's some weeks later, so in that case it was 'all's well that ends well'

The way things are going, £16 will only buy a few 1st class stamps

They should do better than that.
I can see from the photo that the radio has been cut almost in half with a bulldozer blade.
There may be some value in threatening to post the photo on social media.

And you know that there is no hope of that.

We got a cheque for £16.51 today, they apologised and said that sometimes parcels get jammed in their automatic sorting machines and can get crushed.

What a terrible admission for the Royal Mail to make. If the machine is not fit for purpose then it should be fixed or not used.
