BBC Essex

Blast, the BBC have shut down their BBC Essex transmission on 1530 MW. I used to use it to trim the HF end of MW and listen whilst working on my radios in my work room.

Quite a few BBC locals on medium wave are now switched off.
Not really a problem up here as we didn't have BBC locals at all. We do have commercial locals though and Forth 2 is up at the top end of the band, not too strong here either so a good one for final off air trimming.

Mike, wouldn't Gold on 1548kHz, 97.5kW from Saffron Green (about 8km SW of Brookmans Park) be an acceptable substitute?

I know from my days growing up in Grays that we never had any problems with the Light Programme, 1214kHz, 120kW from BP, so I would expect this slightly less powerful transmitter to still give a reasonable signal in your neck of the woods.

Incidentally, I find this list of AM stations in the British Isles useful (it also include high power European transmitters which are receivable here) and it is obviously kept well up to date as evidenced by this entry for BBC Essex (my emphasis):

1530kHz;  Southend until Jan 2018;  BBC Essex/ Retune Advice;   0.150kW;  Rayleigh, Southend;  TQ 830 904

Also,  on any radio produced in 1950 or later with dial markings to cater for the introduction of the Copenhagen Plan in that year will have 1548kHz/194m conveniently marked as 'Third'!

I need a good radio to pick up Gold here, some just cant find it because it is out of range on the tuning, though it is better now I have sorted out most of my interference problems.

Well, as you obviously find that list useful you may be interested in what else the site can offer.

That site contains a wealth of broadcast station frequency and other information and, you will note from the root page of that site: http://www.frequencyfinder.org.uk/ that all the listings have been updated this month, many on the 13th, with a few older ones, including the list I linked to, updated on the 7th.

I've found those lists handy on a number of occasions although I have yet to investigate the entire site in detail!
