Pye P123BQ transistor radio.

Last week I bought this early transistor radio from from an Ebay seller.  The set is a later development of the 1957 Pye P123BQ. It differs from the early production models in having full coverage of the long waveband, the earlier models had only one pre-set station on LW. The other difference as far as this set is concerned is the type of transistors employed, the Mullard OC44 range instead of the Newmarket types of the V6/R4 series.  The IF is 315Kc/s.
The cabinet needs attention, the red material around the sides and top of the case has completely worn off and so has the lacquer on the brass trim.
The P123BQ was the follow on model from the 1956 Pam 710.

Hi Mike,
indeed it did. All that was required to make the set work was the removal of corrosion on the battery terminals, that's all. However, it would seem that the IF transformers need peaking up, there is a "double hump" when tuning in radio stations, especially at the HF end of the medium waveband.

Hi.
I recently repaired one of these sets, a very early version with preset 200kHz.
It belongs to Stephen Patrick, like you he hails from Greenock. The radio only needed its volume control cleaned.

This set must be a late production model as the audio driver and output transistors are a Mullard OC78D and two OC78s in the push-pull output stage. I was expecting them to be OC72s.
