Rogowski coils are not that uncommon in power electronics (very much in active use) and are very clever.
I also use a variety of Pearson current transformers which have stupidly good specifications, e.g. the Pearson 411 CT has 3dB points at 1Hz and 20MHz, 5000A peak and 50A RMS continuous and will respond to 20nS rise times - at about USD 600 its not cheap, but there's no real competition.
