One to note for future reference.
Data link via the five year old ADSL Belkin G router suddenly packed up last night, requiring a manual reboot of the router as it could not see the link. Plugging into the router are seven PCs scattered around the house, one Roberts internet radio, two 2Tb servers and a network printer. When the router came back on after re-booting, to my horror, it had managed to wipe it's settings from it's memory, including the connection data.
Sat there last night, typing in settings, DNS numbers etc but no joy. It was looking increasingly like a line failure and it has happened with my ISP providor Plusnet (now part of BT) in the past. So went to bed to think on it.
Today, the red connection light of doom on the router was still illuminated. I managed to get onto the Plusnet server via an another PC at another location to check my settings. One curious point was that although the box was showing NO CONNECTION on the internal control panel software, it was still showing a download and upload rate in the diagnostics box but no time or date. Finally, out of desperation, and considering that the box might have gone doo lally, I went for the nuclear option, a full manufacturers reset. Lo and behold, the box then decided to straighten up and fly right and a connection was established.
So, one to watch, if your backs against the wall with the router box, try the full plugs out reset. Just remember to copy your settings and keep them in a safe place before you do so. I suspect that long term I'm going to have to replace the box as five years continuous operation appear to have given it a hard time.
