Gecophone Early Radio Help wanted

I got this radio down from a shelf in the workshop this evening with the idea of starting work on it.
Its a Gecophone BC4000 4 Valve set but somebody has been using it for a donor set and its missing two valves, a reaction control and a R.T.C Tuning control and knob.
Has anybody got a circuit diagram for this set as it has various wires cut
I can only identify one valve which is a Osram DE8LF
Also on the hunt for a the controls,knobs and valves if anybodys got any spare.

All costs met.

Where are the coils?
Are the valves in the right sockets or should there be plug-in coils?

I was thinking that but I presumed they plugged in the socket in the front marked Reactance, I will have to draw out a rough circuit diagram and see where it gets me.
Looks like I am also going to need some coils

You probably are old boy, as there does not seem to be a circuit on line. The set does seem to be pretty valuable, so getting hold of coils may be a problem.

In 2004, one was sold at Harpenden for £350.

The coils plug into the two sockets inside the case. There's a picture on this site http://radios.tarka.org/ and the two coils can be seen in the right places. You're very lucky to have such a set.

hummmmm the plot thickens, I had a look at the picture but the front is different where the tuning window is I have a multi position switch marked "volume control" and under that a four pin valve type socket marked reactance, they are both lettered like the other controls so I don't think its a home mod.
The two valves that are in it are both DE8LF as I managed to read the markings on the unknown one under a lamp.

The set does seem to be pretty valuable, so getting hold of coils may be a problem.

But it's value would also justify the cost and time of having new coils wound?

To me the sets value is not really a factor as its a hobby and an enjoyment to get old sets and make them work rather than get them for just how much they are worth.
I am going to have a look out for some coils at a few radio rallies as I had luck at these before.
Most of the coils I have are two pin with a large and small pin, has anybody come across a four pin base before????

Hello Luke, Might be of some help - I had a lengthy thread(1920's TRF), starting on 27th Sept.2009, on Paul Stenning's Vintage Radio Forum. Your set looks similar to mine. GECoPhone design, Lewcos & Lissen components etc. But remember, these were mainly sold in kit form, and vary from kit to kit. You'll probably spend as much time, if not more, on cabinet restoration than the circuitry. Especially if they were clarted with the yuck varnishes available at the time. Restoring the basic cabinet, cheek pieces, veneered ebonite etc, back to their natural colour is well worth the effort.
