Yesterday, during another clear out of junk upstairs above the shop a tatty but complete Murphy A4 was found.
The A4 is similar to many other makes of superhet receiver made in 1933 having a pentode valve to perform the function of the frequency changer.
Murphy employed the Mazda AC/PEN.
The following year in the UK specific frequency changer valves were introduced. The Mazda AC/TP in the Murphy A24.
Philips AK1 and Mullard FC4 octodes.
The pentagrid converter 6A7 was announced in 1933.
