Hi.
I've had one of these lying in my loft for ages and now I need to gut out some of the junk or otherwise in it.
So today I brought it down. It's got a customers name on it but in Fife. I've an idea it came from Anstruther.
So I decided to have a look. Firstly I saw the output lead was split at the earth clamp. A quick look also revealed some new but incorrect valves and a few resistors had been replaced.
So I slowly powered it up, the dial lamp was open circuit and the magic eye down to air but at 160v mains input it burst into life and really good too. Advancing the variac it got quieter and the HF stations disappeared.
I found that the ECC85 had an 88 fitted replacing this made no difference but the 1k cathode resistor had been replaced with a 100 ohm. Still no great change, I then decided to look around the oscillator and saw it stopped at 98mhz on the dial. This was traced to the 20pf feedback cap, this cured the tuning range. Oddly though with normal mains it was deaf, at 180v it was excellent. I then found the HT feed to the EF80 was the wrong value which had been replaced in the past, fitting the correct 10k cured the deafness at 240v. I also found an EF184 fitted instead of an EF80.
The tuner works very nicely now. Just need to get a magic eye, bulb, phono lead and a clean up. May fit a MC1310 Stereo decoder before putting it up for sale as its of no use to me, also have a leak amp for it that I'll have a look at.
