At last got myself a 1960's Heathkit S99. May of been in a ditch for a while!. First problem in restoration, a snowcapped main dual cap, 60uf & 75uf 450vdc. I have a new 50uf + 50uf 500vdc cap or I have a new 68uf and a 56uf 450vdc (I could dig out the goo from the old can and put them in) which do you think would be better?.

Hells bells that's a mucky beast. I'd take a pressure washer to it on low power, dry it out for a few weeks.

Well. I replaced the dual main cap with two as near to the values I could get, replaced all the low values with film caps, checked the higher value electrolytic which measured very close so left them. Connected the beast up and it WORKS!. I've had it running all day and it sounds better by the hour, a bit (well, lot) of cosmetic work to do, I'm absolutely chuffed!.

I'm pleased it's working. You've got a really challenge now in cleaning it up so that you don't disturb something to stop it from working.
