Thanks Col. One of my stools suffered a bit of a setback the other day. I had a piece of tin shelf clamped to it so that I could cut a piece off with my angle grinder. Things went well to start with, then became very slow. Guess what?
The idea of modifying the roof for better insualtion is attractive. However, Wickes OSB sheets vary between £26.50 - so-called roof decking, unprotected - and £30 for proper bitumised OSB. I fear I'm too mean

Thanks for adding the pics Alan - other people's workshops are always more interesting than one's own. Some seriously hefty looking gear, and an intersting little lathe jobby and shafting on the treadle sewing machine table!

The Super Adept on the treadle is/was just a bit of fun. However, it works quite well. I'm not happy about the bearings on the countershaft I made so I'll probably redo them. Also, I bought the little drill after I'd made the rest so I still have to add that on. I've also got a little vice to put on the table. I suppose I should make a small drawer to put tools in, and then it will be finished and I can give it away

Nice little bits of kit Alan - it always makes me wonder what they've been used fo in their life, by whom, and for how long? Daily in the course of someone's work, on languishing neglected in a corner of a home workshop?

Who knows - anyone's guess.

What has become apparent while reading this thread is that most people are having to use the same space as both Workshop and Display Gallery and this is where the space goes. I'm lucky in that I live alone and plan on putting some working sets (don't laugh) downstairs when that's usable again. That said the empty back room is damned handy as a carpentry w/shop and I'll miss it for that.

Chris's potential clear-out has got me salivating as well, Jamie.

My workshop started out as a cow shed so I was told and gained a roof and windows. My only heating source is a wood burning stove but it does well and last year I retrieved some metal sheets from a site I was working on that were going spare put it on top of the existing roof with insulation between.
However its still not tidy but I have got a bench of sorts and getting some stuff onto shelves/racking
although it doesn't help when I come across more radios I like the look of.

I agree with Al & David that amateur radio seems slipping into the realms of all shop bought equipment and there are the idiot's out there that think its funny to whistle and key up the repeater but there is still a good number of people out there using home brew and older equipment.
Most of my radios and gadgets are either, home brew, donations or rally bought as when I first got my licence money for the hobby wasn't much.
My main radios in the shack are a AR88D for HF Listening, a T1154/R1155 for AM work and a yaesu radio (can't remember the model) for other HF work and I got it at longleat radio rally. The newest is a Trio 9000 for 2M work and thats 80's I believe.
The main thing is if it goes wrong I can attempt to repair it, not open it up look at all the surface mount technology and have to send it back somewhere to be repaired.
