Vintage electrics on a grand scale

One of the finalists in this photography competition is a wonderful power station control room.

Makes Battersea "A" control room look quite modest.

I'm astonished to find an article like this in the Daily Mail. Despite a few minor errors it even explains a synchroscope.

It's actually the abandoned Centrale termoelettrica di Kelenföld - a thermo-electric power-plant in Budapest, Hungary... pretty well documented and a photographers' favorite...

Yes, good article about Battersea! Photos, and an explanation of what they are. Well done Daily Mail! Thanks for drawing attention to it Jeffrey!

The Budapest control room does beat the Battersea but when it comes to the exterior then Gilbert Scott's building wins hands down.

Let's hope we'll still get some good views of Battersea. The amount they're building around it makes it look hemmed in. I've driven through the area a few times recently; it looks vile.

I've visited this Budapest power station a few years back for a possible film location !!
There's some really interesting side rooms, cooling waterways, switch rooms etc - but the jewel in the crown is this control room !
Even more remarkably, I was told by an elder ex-employee that cold water ran over the top of the glass ceiling panels to cool the room - who says you can't mix water and electricity  ?
