Philips radio push-button tuner.

How about this piece of magnificent Philips radio engineering?  It's a push-button station selector which has been removed from a late '30s receiver the actual model type escapes me at the moment.  Now I'll have to incorporate this fine piece of engineering into some kind of radio construction project.

Most likely it was removed from a Philips 555A.

555A, 660A, 855X, 735A, 680A.

Its was called Direct Drive Tuning in an a article by, now sadly gone, Jeffrey Dixon-Nuttall.   It apparently has concentric cylinders, like a Beehive trimmer, and the outer cylinder moves in and out from linkage from the push buttons.

If you fancy a complete radio then the 660A is good one to get as it has a tuned RF stage, some of the others don't.

Those 270 degree arc tuning dials always look so good.
I have the 472A but the dial is smaller.

Sounds like the in/out permeability tuned push button car radios derived from this? Those fascinated me in 1970s! Very ingenious how the "preset" was changed by pulling out the button. Also unlike modern presets, the scale pointer showed what the button did. The ergonomics of many modern things is rubbish, with interfaces designed only for showroom appearance and for lowest cost.
