Locating an added DVD Rewriter drive in Windows 10

Some months ago now, I fitted a DVD writer to  one of the HP computers sold by 'Unreal dave' last year, and, earlier today, I was planning to upload a CD to the drive so that it could be burned to a blank disk.  However the only way i could acess the drive was via Windows Media Player where, no matter what I did, I was unable to initiate recording (burning) mode.  Nowhere on my system can I find a 'shortcut to DVD' button, which is how I used to perform such tasks, first uploading the track(s) I wantd to copy, then inserting a recordable dIsc, and selecting 'burn'.  Can anyone tell me how I gan set up W10 to allow me toupload content from one CD or DVD, then make a recording of the required items, please?

If you want to burn a CD or DVD, with windows 10 you generally use a third-party app. There are loads of free ones out there.

I've been looking at a few apps, Nick, but one thing puzzles me, which is that earlier today, I put a recorded CD in the drive, and was anle to listen to it via Windows media Player, but despite ticking the tracks I wanted to copy, I couldn't drag & drop any to burn them to a blank disc. Looking at the Microsoft instructions for burning tracks to CD from WMP, I don't see why this can't be done. Maybe I should switch back to W7?

Can' help with WMP, I have used CDBurnerXP for some time on windows 8.1 and 10.
Easy to use, works well and free but beware of 'OpenCandy' in the default installer.
I would recommend the portable version (CDBurner Portable) which requires no installation - just unzip into a folder and run 'cdbxpp.exe'

Try right clicking the file and in the drop down menu select send to dvd drive (x)

Go to "File Explorer", then "This PC" and you will see icons for all drives attached to your machine. You can then right click on the drive and create your own shortcut if you wish.

I agree there are lots of very good utilities for disk burning. I like Imgburn which is free, robust and not only handles disk image files but will burn all files and folders very reliably. http://www.imgburn.com/

From what I can see of Win 10 everything is still there but it may have changed it's name and you have to find it
