Old Typewriter anyone ?

Hello All,

Yes my old Remington 7 is an upstrike and it's mildly annoying not being able to see what you type as you type it, however you can lift up the platen to have a look as you go.
I like the look of the old Yost, seems funny to have to replicate the keyboard for upper and lower case letters (nobody thought of a shift key yet !!). Is it still working ok?

The hammers have a rather complex mechanism and they tend to stick. It's a few years since I played with it and I can't remember what the inking mechanism is. I guess the answer is no, it doesn't work.

Clever stuff,

I assume it was on a Royal 10 because there were so many of them and they were so common.
How long did it take to put the film together (Stop frame I assume).

Yes stop frame. Every time a character moved a new sheet of paper was typed out.
Out of frame are two typed full stops, pierced through with a needle.
These 2 holes were used for registration on the camera rostrum over 2 pins.
Probably took about 100 hours to make.

I've just dug out that Royal typewriter I used
to make the film.  It has 5 printed on the front of the frame.
Still has its black/red ribbon but daresay after 50 years
they are dry now,.

OOooh, a Flat-bed 5 Royal. Certainly a bit rarer than a Royal 10.
