Went to the London Transport Museum Depot open day today. I've been before and seen the wonderful collection of stuff that's too big or too odd to go in the main museum. Not everything is labelled and there weren't always volunteers in the right place to ask about things. Very well worth a vist. Next open day is in September.
Some highlights were:
* A demonstration of linocut printmaking using a steamroller
* Bits of the control system from the original Victoria Line trains. These were automatically controlled except for the driver closing the doors. No guard. I think the tonewheel device was part of the speed control arrangments which used various pulses and tones sent via the running rails.
* Switchboard equipment. I think some was a generator control panel from Lots Road and some was a DC switchboard from an unknown depot.
Almost forgot to mention the ride on an RT Greenline bus down to Kew Gardens and back. there was also a red RM doing the trip.
