Using a DVB-T Recorder with an Analogue TV

I am having problems connecting a Daewoo DRVT-43 DVB-T VCR/DVD Recorder to a Philips CRT TV model 21PT4457-05. Basically I have connected the two units via a scart connector between the lower scart socket on the recorder, and the lower (EXT1) connector on the TV, using cables that have worked with other equipment, but all I can get out of the DVB-T machine is sound, and sometimes an out of sync (rolling)display. Connecting the DVB-T recorder via the component video connections makes no difference.
Does this mean that the recorder isn't compatible with my TV?

First make sure that the scart cables are seated correctly, it is possible to have audio but no video if the plug isn't fully home in the socket. Failing that, check with the recorders user manual that you are connecting the TV to the correct scart socket. If the problem still persists then I suppose you could have an incorrect setting selected in the recorders options but not being familar with the model I cannot confirm that.

check on the tv menue that the scart input is set to the same as the recorder output try rgb next try composit.
rgb normaly gives sync on green so if tve is set to composit you get an unlocked floating picture.
also check you are useing a fully wired scart lead ie all 21 pins .

The Scart connector is horrible, designed by committe! Have a good look inside the cable ends as often the pins come loose after a few connection attempts and push back and then dont make connection in the socket. Often they can be tugged back, with a small pair of pliers, and twiddled a bit to lock back in place.

RGB from SCART uses the CVBS signal for sync purposes. If the TV isn't set up for RGB you should still get a picture as switching to RGB on the STB will set pin 16 on the connector to +5v telling the TV that RGB has been enabled.

As has been said check the pins aren't bent, it's all too easy to bend them or for them to get pushed back into the housing.

Are the connectors on the recorder labelled TV and VCR? Although both output video and audio only the TV connector will output the switching signals.

Thanks, everyone, for your help. The DVB-T/TV set-up is now working, though I can't be certain what caused the problem, except that removing and reconnecting the Scart Cables has cured it, so maybe one wasn't fully inserted. I couldn't see any bent or loose pins, and in any case I had used the same cables with another VCR/DVD combi unit, though that has only an analogue tuner. Now, for the first time since DSO, I should be able to record TV programs again! On the DRVT-43, the lower Scart connector is labelled TV, and on the Philips TV, the corresponding socket is marked 'EXT1'. The recorder connects to this socket.
