Poor Electrical Junction in VHF90

Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for the info. I am trying to be conservative with my use of solder which was a pity that they didnt do this when it was made.
I've hit a new snag.....every time I try to clean up a joint the original wiring just crumbles away as does any insulating on component leads.

This has got to be one of the worse radios I have worked on.

Yes, sounds like a product of heat and age, wait 'till you have to do an RF Box on an R1155 (Avoid)
I'm not that familiar with the model you have but certain radios seem to be more prone than others when it comes to wire insulation, still, one step at a time Rob, trying though it may be, sometimes it is better to strip the lot and completely rewire/reharness once you have done a few, however one step at a time is the best way to go initially.

How right to are Lawrence. I decided to go for it and clean up the surrounding area, re-insulate etc. It now does look rather better than it did.

Now for that dial cord..........
