Dynatron Jewel TP30A

Hi All,

I'm looking for service data for the Dynatron Jewel TP30A...

I already have data for the more familiar TP30, but the A version is quite different internally. It seems that it's quite rare. There is a teak version - as Dynatron tended to offer back then - but confusingly, this is a TP33!

A search revealed an eBay seller who had a service manual for the TP30A/TP33, and it didn't sell. Sadly, he's not responded to my messages...

I've attached a couple of pictures of the set, along with an internal picture of the more common TP30 so you can see the differences:

If nothing else, hope this is interesting. I had no idea that this humble-looking set, rescued from the floor at the NVCF for a fiver, would prove so interesting

What a lovely set Mark! I have a few Dynatron sets myself but that looks quite resplendent in red.

Thanks - I'd given it a good clean-up and attacked the scale with Brasso, but luckily it was in uncommonly good condition. A lucky find indeed!

The rear panel and sides were originally padded, and I hope to have a go at reinstating that. It's just a shame the set is dead - I don't fancy having to trace out the schematic by hand, but it wouldn't be the first time

They don't scare me!

I think the fault is in the audio amplifier. I haven't had any time to investigate; I was up far too late the night before cleaning it up ready for the photograph session before leaving for work.

Although it was cheap because it was dead, it did work after cleaning the power switch. But that was before I took it apart - something else has gone wrong since. The junction of the output transistors is against a rail, but the quiescent current is OK, so it's nothing too serious. I'll get there - just I'll get there sooner with the schematics...
