I bought this last year at a radio rally mounted with the lens, I think its an infra-red converter tube of a very early pattern. I have tried to get it to work with 900 volts using the little solid state inverter without success.
This week I got an EHT transformer and so I can give it another try. I used to have a surplus WW2 style CV14x style tube when I was a schoolboy - I seem to remember that working after a fashion on about 1kV. I think the transformer is designed to use an EHT rectifier valve with 2 volt heater I could use a valve or maybee find an old stick rectifier from an old telly - better be careful, that transformer looks dangerous.
To complete the old tube goodness I also bought another odd looking tube, turns out to be an old voltage regulator tube - I can try and strike this using the variable HT supply I bought earlier in the year. looking forward to seeing a pink glow from it although it way be almost all hidden by the way it is constructed.
