Digital microscope

Anyone bought one of these?  A bewildering  number out there at a large range of prices.

Not bothered about all the "X 1000" mag claims, more interested in low mags. Would like it to be on a useable stand that can be set horizontal as well as vertical.  Ability to get a snapshot picture from it would be good or is it a case of taking a pic of the PC screen with a camera.  Reasonable optical quality would be a + as would not too high a price as it would only be for occasional use.

Hi.
I only have used a atandard optical microscope when working with SMD during my employment time at Sony.
It was up to 40x and brilliant to use.
I have heard that some digital microscopes have a slight delay and this can really mess up when you are reflowing chips or touching up joints. Whether that's your intention Gary obviously I'm not sure. The idea of being able to do a snapshot is very useful too.

I have a cheap digital microscope branded "Andonstar". ISTR it cost about £30. I has a small universal stand. Haven't used it much but it seems pretty good. I forget what program I use on the PC (probably not the one supplied with it) but it can do snapshots and video recordings. As Trevor says, there is a delay but it's not too bad. I've not tried doing SMD work with it.

I bought an older model of this one and have been happy with it.
It is stand alone and does snap shots and video clips and saves them to SD card.
It can be removed from the stand and laid down without tools.

I have an older version of the one Refugee linked to.
I do SMD work with it. It has got a slight delay and I did find it annoying at first but I have got used to it now.
If I have not got the microscope out and I want to check for something like solder splashes between IC pins I use the camera on the smartphone.
I Use the zoom feature on it or take a photo and zoom in. I find it works quite well

I have been looking at one similar to that given by Refugee and Frank. As yet I have not been able to find out if the camera can be rotated to view horizontally?

Hi Gary
The stand that came with the one I have is vertical only.
I suspect that most of them are vertical only.
