I think Amie that it would be a bit too retro and a shame to inflict a tractor on a classic. It may shake it to bits!

Head unit designation started when there were add on units elsewhere in the car like 6 disc players, remote amplifiers etc. It's now stuck in the trade but as Mark says they usually have all the circuitry in the one unit.
Sam you've answered your own question, there is too much debris and vibration in a tractor for CD and tape decks will also wear in a tractor..... Ive had many ruined car CD radios to fix from farmers

If there is enough room in the drivers cab and a fused 12 volt supply a builders radio with a self contained speaker might be worth a look.
Those hedge flails are very noisy. I live close enough to the countryside to hear them every late winter.

Hi.
During the 9 months I worked for Vodafone I used noise cancelling headphones, they do work up to a point, I doubt they would be effective in a 30 year old tractor.
Normal ear defenders would be good but you'd need a really good stereo system too.
Actually a portable radio and good quality well sealed in ear headphones could be a solution.

I've put a cheeky bid in for a Chinese radio, we will see what its like when it dematerialises from Pat's van, hopefully intact.  The Royal Maul will be a good test as to its suitability for tractor duty!

Need to find an armour plated speaker enclosure now..........
