Thats's a fair old collection of vintage wirelesses. Any idea where? Might have been the first mentioned place in the article.

Interesting that you use the word. 'vintage wirelesses' to describe these.

To me they are radios. A vintage wireless would have to be circa 1920s to be
classified as vintage and a wireless.

But then I am vintage too so those radios look very modern to me.

The term "wireless" has always been fun.
My mother used to call the 1950s radio the wireless when I was very young.
The point I made even at that young age was that it indeed had a wire leading to a power socket so how could it be wireless.
My mother had forgotten very quickly that I had been watching telephone wires being installed so I was well versed on the topic of wires.
Quickly I worked out that I was being fobbed off.
A wireless was originally a two way radio right from the start and the name carried on until broadcasting started and then a bit longer.
A 21st century wireless is one of those things that are welded to the sides of peoples faces. They are surely wireless telephones.

The parts of mobile phones that do the RF side of wireless communication are known as radios. So a typical modern phone will have multiple radios. The main radio, wifi, bluetooth and perhaps others.

The BVWS is still that. As is the VIntage Wireless Musuem though it now has TV in its official name.

The Army identified many items as 'Wireless Set No. xx' until the post-war period, and the Air Force had a 'Wireless Operator' during the war years, so I simply don't agree that something must date from the 1920s to be called a wireless!
